Views in Paradise

Asana Bay . . . the view from the back of Kayle's high school
If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. PSALM 139:8-10

Updates . . .

New year, lots of new things . . . so rather than e-mailing thought I would send out an update:

. . . Kayle is at the ER again! But this time he is not the patient, he is a Red Cross volunteer for Career Practicum class! One week in and he is loving it! He is even planning to volunteer after school and ride the activity bus home some days!
. . . Kayle's sprained ankle from a pick-up game at the gym is healing slowly - he gets around well now but still has a couple more physical therapy visits.
. . . Kayle has been accepted to Azusa Pacific & Whitworth and is awaiting many more replies - so many applications & now on to scholarship applications!
. . . Brooke started piano lessons a couple weeks ago and loves it!
. . . Brooke will be starting tennis lessons next week - thankfully it is less humid these days and a nice island breeze has been blowing for a good month or more!
. . . She got A honor roll and read lots of books to get lots of points for Reading Counts program!
. . . Gavin has been attending Island Twisters for gymnastics for several weeks now and is loving it!
. . . Gavin will start basketball next week also and is excited to have a classmate on his team!
. . . Gavin did well last semester and got lots of points for Reading Counts program too!

Christmas in the Land Down Under

It's the Teletubbies . . . oh, it's just Kim & Brooke & Gavin getting ready to swim in jellyfish infested waters at Green Island - aren't we cute?!
Precious moments - Kayle & G on the cruise back to Cairns
The Lagoon (free & for everyone) in Cairns - it was 98 degrees and that water felt great! Our plane took off for home late that night - what a great ending to a wonderful vacation.

Lots of fish as seen through the glass bottom boat
Brooke just chillin' at dinner one night
Feeding time
Kayle and his sparkling cider
A portion of the Barron Falls as seen from the train stop
He thought he was getting her, but this was the dinosaur's last action before Brooke got him!
Lost his 2nd tooth . . . in Australia - the day after we got there!
Walking along the river in Kuranda
Watery eyes this day, but such a handsome Aussie with the hat on!
Taking a break from walking around in Kuranda
Trinity Beach, Queensland, Australia
Hungry crocodile!
Kayle feeding wallabies
Kayle & Brooke feeding & petting kangaroos
Petting an abandoned baby wallaby in Kuranda . . .
Kayle & Gavin and the snake
The moment she was waiting for - cuddling a koala!
Here we all are at the Cairns Tropical Zoo - we got to feed kangaroos, hear Kukaburras, see crocodiles being fed (YIKES!), pet wallabies, and see so many amazing other creatures we don't see every day - God is so creative!

Rota Walk . . . a tropical Christmas tradition here on the base. Homes on Rota Drive decorate like crazy and pass out goodies. Merry Christmas from Guam!

Brooke at a field trip to Gef Pa'go . . . yes, Gavin was just there on a field trip a few weeks ago; however, Brooke enjoyed the tug o' war game which Gavin's class didn't get to do :-)

Soccer game at a local high school - you can see Two Lover's Point in the background, which overlooks Tumon Bay.

Study Trip for Gavin's class to Gef Pa'go

Here is Gavin on his first field trip of first grade - it's called "study trip" - guess field trip sounded too fun :-) Anyway, the kids got to see how life was here on the island many years ago, you know before electricity ... a carabao (aka water buffalo - think of the song from Veggie Tales), weaving from coconut leaves, making rope, an old house with bug netting around the beds (and no mattress either), coconout husking & grating and coconut candy, and how sea salt was made (tasty!)
